i decided to give issuu a try after making a few changes to my portfolio/CV. have a look, and do it in fullscreen mode!

**it appears some graphic elements were lost in the upload…but i’m inclined to forgive them because it looks so good. thumbs mostly up to issuu.

6 months down, 2.5 to go. i ended the first term (schematic/conceptual design) of my thesis project, the bootstrap union, three weeks ago. for the first time in my architecture career, i am able to use the suggestions of my final reviewers and implement them in my design. the final ten weeks (tectonic development) begin tomorrow. this is what i’ve come up with so far:

this is a project i created for the MAKElab product design competition last month. the purpose of the contest was to create a gift object for the dean of our school to present to the many dignitaries she meets. entries also had to include a detailed production budget and process. my idea didn’t win, but it received some positive feedback. i will definitely be re-working and re-submitting this next time. more flicks and info after the jump.

my dad turned 50. my mom intercepted his AARP card from the mail and i took the opportunity to recreate it at a comically large scale. i presented both parcels to him after he blew out the disappointing TWO candles on the cake. i’ve always considered number-shaped candles a cop out, or for heavy smokers.

my project is complete. i’ve spent the past 6 weeks in denmark studying scandinavian design and then the last 3 designing and building this chair. i crafted it from a piece of dry but rough-cut danish maple. the seat is 3mm thick marine-grade nylon rope that cups you like a new pair of hanes. i’m expecting it to go straight into production once the show opens tomorrow evening. see the other 270 degrees of the chair after the jump.

- that was supposed to take 6 hours
- that had 2.2 million surfaces to bounce light off of
- that put us 30 hours behind schedule, 24 hours before it was due
- that finished, but took 2 hours of photoshop work to make it presentable
